I found this spot accidentally it was a huge surprise for me because I had never
imagine the existence of this unique heritage and was hidden so perfect from the public, why???
I admire the hospitality of the workers without them, perhaps I couldn’t never understood how lucky I was
Khirokitia Culture (7000-5800 B.C), or the Recent Aceramic Neolithic of Cyprus, results from a long process which began in the 9th milennium, if not before.
Excavations on the site, which is included in the World Heritage List of UNESCO, began in 1936 under the direction of Porphyrios Dikaios, then Curator of the Department of Antiquities, and since 1976 have been continued by a French Archaelogical Mission under the direction of A. Le Brun.
The settlement stretches over the steep slopes of a hill and is enclosed within a wall which has been uncoverered in the East and North (Wall 100). With the partial abandonment of the northern slope and extension to the West, the settlement takes a new configuration defined by a new enclosure wall (Wall 284).
The constructions are circular with flat roofs in the form of a terrace. A house constitutes the grouping of several of these circular constructions around a small inner “courtyard” with an installation for grinding grain.
Flint or bone tools and receptacles made of stone or basketwork were used in daily life.
The deceased were buried in pits cut into a floors of habitation units. Some of them were accompanied by stone vessels and necklaces.
The nutrition needs of the inhabitants of Khirokitia were met by animal husbandry, hunting, cultivation of plants and gathering of wild fruits.
The site was abandoned around 5800 B.C. It was reoccupied from 5000 B.C by people of the Sotira Culture who knew and had mastere the art of pottery.

“Keepers of Each Other’s Culture”
When groups of citizens from Cyprus and abroad, working together in a spirit
of cooperation and trust for the rescue, protection, and promotion and when their motto is:
“Keepers of Each Other’s Culture”
They can do miracles like the restoration of The main church of Kontea village is
dedicated to Agios Charalambos
This was the only large church in the whole of the Famagusta region dedicated to Agios Charalambos
and it was therefore a very popular gathering point for the celebration of the SaintΒ?s feast day
every February 10th
The United Nations, through the United Nations Development Programme, at the beginning of 2006
called for proposals for the restoration and maintenance of endangered monuments all over Cyprus.
The programme aims in contributing towards co-operation and trust between the communities through working together on issues of common concern.
Historically the village of Kontea is related to the mansion which existed there from the time of
the Franks. During the French occupation the mansion was the residence of a high-ranking officer
called Viscount. The name Kontea is therefore foreign and it originates from that time;
Kontea village is situated in a favorable position on the southeastern side of the Mesaoria plain,
between the three main cities of Famagusta, Nicosia and Larnaca. It was originally a Frankish fief,
gradually growing into a village with the influx of people seeking work in the fertile land of what
later came to be known as the Frankish ciftlik.
Group of People I respect
After a very long period of silence, I decide to show again the things I love,
all the things that makes me proud and happy
I collect some pictures from the project I’ve started months before with the “Volunteers doctors”
I visit them many times and I saw their try, their mood,
for me they are gentlemen and ladies, they are humans and they won my respect
In this health system, if you don’t have money you might die somewhere in the dark of your life.
I congratulate them and I am thankfull for our meetings and for their existance
Ghost memories
39 years after the Turkish invasion, an island with two separated communities, a thousand of stories,
so many of which truly tragic,
so many ruins to remind you that you should not forget.
In almost every corner you can see the past not as a protected historic landmark space but with a great difficulty through much fear, just like in the forbidden dreams, like some nightmarish memories not letting you unsweat, even when burned by the scorching sun you still remain totally feraful sweaty even though the danger has passed, has it?
Sometimes Ι am wondering if I walk through history or I just wander around my very own imagination??
A little further pass me, horns, the noise of the modern city, around me, modern clothes, modern music, but somehow in an invisible matter the elements prevail,
like ghosts
(On progress………..)
Forbidden
It is forbidden to walk, see, remember, of course to do pictures…….
…..(as if, the Google maps does not exist?)
…..In the middle, memories, cheking Points, uniforms undercover and indifferent, diplomacy, strange looks, games, forces
……..the years go by, maybe sometime soon or later, they might change the signs to follow a more modern version of the forbidden
Summer schools
Today was a very special day for me…
I was in a swimming pool in Nicosia having fun with these “unique dolphins” and their “trainer”.
I feel lucky and blessed to have met this extraordinary professional who will assist me
on my next “project” and in the process of doing that …have fun with yours trully at the same time…..
Cant wait to be in the pool again follow and play with all these wild creatures !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No problem
Another day with a committee, experts speak and consider, the time goes by, the institutions of the state is in order, assured we can now rest and relax, custodians will solve the problems with such solemnity the democracy works, no problem
(usually, when we hear NO PROBLEM the battle begins, dropping bombs, people run to escape…..)
I learned it in Bosnia saying “nema problema”,
I saw it in Greece saying “κανένα πρόβλημα”,
Ι hear it now and here saying “no problem”, every day and almost in every committee
Lucky moments
In one of the most famous streets internationally, for the check point to occupied Cyprus,
for the battles that took place there a few years ago and now on its market value,
yesterday night a young group gave meaning and sound to passers
Two bouzoukis, a guitar, great voices, vivid youth, dancing, a little beer, a little crazy and it was great, they broke the monotony and routine of somewhat fashion street
Wasteland
One of my childish game so many years before, was to imagine when I looked a abandoned place with damaged houses, a wasteland, the people used to live there, their voices, their lives,
Dreams full of emotionally questions without truly answers
Yesterday today tomorrow a human path for surviving
Walking through the centuries
The whole human history there is in a museum.
The Museum of Cyprus, you in your first steps there and while you have no sooner put the ticket in your pocket, you enter the Stone Age and transferred through the time machine exhibits until the Byzantine period,
you really feel and wander on centuries heritage of this little dismayed by the economic crisis island of about 800,000 inhabitants.
What a great weapon in the hands of rulers for advertising this historical island
